Basic Business Attributes, Do You Have Them

How many times have we heard the saying “we learn from our mistakes”. I have to agree with this saying, and also that the lessons we learn hardest we learn best!

I have learned a lot from my mistakes, sadly (for me) most of them were made before the Internet existed as the fantastic networking tool it is today.

Today it is possible to read articles or join a forum and get great advice (and not so great advice) from forums.

Business basics, business,

How many times have we heard the saying “we learn from our mistakes”. I have to agree with this saying, and also that the lessons we learn hardest we learn best!

I have learned a lot from my mistakes, sadly (for me) most of them were made before the Internet existed as the fantastic networking tool it is today.

Today it is possible to read articles or join a forum and get great advice (and not so great advice) from forums.

While it is great to learn from our mistakes, it is better to learn from the mistakes of others, or by ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’ as Newton said.

These are my ‘business mistakes’ I have learned from.

1) Keep your monthly fixed costs as low as possible, and make your number one priority to arrange an equal amount of regular income on a regular monthly basis to cover this amount.

If there was one piece of advice I would give it would be the above, as more businesses go bust due to poor cash flow than anything else!

2) Thoroughly research and work in your mind and bounced off other trusted people, your idea. Market test it as much as possible while keeping the idea as quiet as possible.

3) Get a business plan on paper (not the sort the bank or enterprise agencies use as they are by and large a load of rubbish (although you will need this for the bean counters).

(1) above, and set in stone a solid plan for achieving this. After you hit break even continue it on to the next target, and so on.

I just used the magic word there, ‘target’. you MUST be sales orientated in business as the owner, if you are not then you are failing in your main duty which is to ensure the continued existence of the business.

4) Do NOT care what others think about you, i.e. what car you drive etc. ALL of this will change if you stick to the plan and keep your focus on short term targets and longer term goals.

I just tripped another magic word in business ‘ Focus’ .

5) Keep your focus, decide what the targets are, work out how to get them, and focus on doing that. If you need £1000 a month to pay the bills, then this is what you MUST do.

If you lose focus of your core objective, you are going to lose out big time, and end up failing.

If you doubt the power of focus, then try this test:-
Get a friend to hold 3 tennis balls in their hand
Get the friend to throw all three at you in one go
Try to catch the balls
Repeat three times. I bet you will not catch many, if any at all.

Now get them to throw them again, and this time focus on catching one ball.
Repeat three times
Now you will have caught one ball three times.

It is true in business that you must focus on the core objective, just as with the balls once you catch one, you move onto the next, until you have achieved all your goals, or at least your most important ones.

Of all the skills needed to succeed, I would say focus is up there with the top 3 along with enthusiasm and determination.

CALISTHENICS EXERCISE — PUSH UP

A push-up (or press-up if the hands are wider than shoulders placing more emphasis on the pectoral muscles) is a common calisthenics exercise beginning from the prone position.

By raising and lowering the body using the arms, push-ups exercise the pectoral muscles, triceps, and anterior deltoids, with ancillary benefits to the rest of the deltoids, serratus anterior, coracobrachialis and the midsection as a whole.

Push-ups are a basic exercise used in civilian athletic training or physical education and commonly in military physical training.

They are also a common form of punishment used in the military, school sport, or in some martial arts disciplines. (Reference — WIDEKIPA)

Honesty in Business

The internet is a wonderful place to do business, but with the continuous flood of spyware, malware, and spam, it can be a horrible and very frustrating for the average user.

I am amazed, but not surprised, by the unethical practice of businesses using popups and spam to sell a product.

honesty in business

What I want to discuss in this article is the basic idea of honesty. The internet is a wonderful place to do business, but with the continuous flood of spyware, malware, and spam, it can be a horrible and very frustrating for the average user.

I am amazed, but not surprised, by the unethical practice of businesses using popups and spam to sell a product.

It isn’t surprising because the fact is that those business practices work. Any of us that have worked in this field for awhile know that traffic is king.

My experience has been one of honest return for honesty when dealing with customers. Maybe it’s not a quick buck, but I can look at myself in the mirror in the morning and know I did the right thing.

I would rather have a customer for life than a fly by night sale to a customer that I tricked into buying my product. It isn’t always about the bottom line of making cash.

It should be about service and product value. Over the past couple of years I have had more business cleaning up computers that have been completely overran with viruses, trojans, and spam than I’ve done computer builds.

he number one complaint is ‘I just want to be able to use my computer, not worry about viruses and trojans and updates!!!’ Do I profit from unethical business practices? Yes I do when I spend an hour cleaning up a computer.

Do I take the time to teach the user? You bet I do! I spend an hour to two hours with a client after I do a cleanup or a computer build. Do I lose money with this practice? Yes I do, but I gain respect from the customer and that customer will always come back.

The one major challenge with doing business online is that we don’t always get to be face to face with our customers. Even so, there are ways around this that will bring value to your customer and value in repeat business.

It doesn’t cost that much to call and thank someone for their business. It doesn’t cost much to send out a thank you card. I think at times we forget that email isn’t the only way to communicate.

With the prevalence of spam it isn’t always the best way to communicate either. The internet can be a very impersonal place. It is ethically challenging to all of us who try to sale a product or business online.

Is there a chance of giving away too much with little return? That is always a chance we take when we offer advice or tips to a customer. I can guarantee that over time, the word gets around, and your business will develop a core group of customers who value your service and will tell others.

Being a small business is a challenge in the fast paced retail world of chain stores. We can’t offer the huge discounts the major chain stores can, but we can offer service value for the product.

I challenge anyone in the IT industry to take that little bit of extra time to teach users the do’s and don’ts of surfing the web.

It will benefit your business and benefit the customer as well.

INTEGRITY — FOUNDATION OF TRUSTWORTHY

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines INTEGRITY as an “adherence to a code
of values. Incorruptibility, soundness, completeness.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines TRUSTWORTHY: worthy of confidence,

As the name suggests, MLM (Multi-Level-Marketing), basically involves selling a company’s product directly to the customer by way of networking.

Traditional retail selling is left to the brick and mortar businesses.

MLM is executed through a multi-layered distributor system where payments by the company are made to the distributors according to the distribution level they are in.

Distributors are responsible for the business development and revenue generation for the company.

The products sold are those that are used daily. Generally, MLM is done by the companies that are offering products of regular use, such as, soaps, detergents, car wash, containers, and cosmetics.

This is not an exhaustive list, it’s merely a sample.

The convenience of shopping is another strong feature of MLM. Generally, MLM supports online shopping and at times even people network makes the shopping process easy.

The distributor goes to the customer’s house, workplace, or wherever it’s convenient to both the seller and the buyer.

The key features of MLM include networking, flexible timing, and convenience.

Networking is the backbone and the soul of MLM. Word of mouth and trust play major roles in the success of MLM.

People known to the distributor trust him or her recommendations and try out the products.

If the products do have an impact on the customers, then these customers most often recommend these same products to other people they know. And so the snowball rolls.

There’s nothing quite like the flexibility of working for yourself. An MLM distributor can work for as long as he or she wishes to.

Therefore, the time, money and efforts to be invested in MLM are totally on your choice. You may pursue it full-time or part-time as suits you.

Along with the convenience of flexible timings, MLM distributors generally work from home.

They don’t have to show up in the office daily and they can work the hours that fit around other important things in their life.

Startup capital is usually very small as an MLM distributor.

Therefore, you run a little financial risk. But, do measure the risk-return ratio before venturing into any MLM business opportunity.

Is this a get-rich-quick business? NO. It takes a lot of time to grow in MLM.

But, if you are determined to succeed there is nothing to stop you. Results will show.
